From Hynix To The Army

By Gia Vang

EUGENE, Ore. --  The search for employment after losing a job can be a grueling one.  But one resident has an option he's calling stable: the army.

Aaron Pomerleau is turning to the military after being laid off by Hynix in August 2008.

For the next five months, a build-a-bear suited in army gear and named Daddy will tell 3-year-old Alexus her father loves her.

That's because Aaron Pomerleau is headed to South Carolina for army traning before he gets stationed.  He said he made the decision to enlist after he was laid off from hynix back in 2008.

"It was a very very helpless feeling," he said.

Helpless because of the many rejections he got trying to find a job in law enforcement or the medical field.  While none panned out, the bills started stacking up.

Pomerleau said, "I just had to sell my other truck yesterday to help kind of pay this month's bill before I get my first paycheck."

His first check from the army, that is.  And Pomerleau said it's a relief to know paychecks will come for the next three years.

"I just know it's gonna be better on the other side," Pomerleau said.

He said the only drawback is not being able to see his family for a few months.  He has two daughters, Alexus and Allison and his wife, Angela.

His wife said she's hopeing the decision will help get them out of the hole.

"You can't sweat what could possibly happen, you just have to hope for the best," she said.

The family will reunite after Pomerleau's training.  They said they will move to wherever he gets stationed, as long as he's not deployed right away.
