EUGENE, Ore. -- An act of vandalism at the UO's LGBTQA office on Sunday angered many on campus, and on Friday students protested to keep an unrelated controversial speaking group from using the student union building.
University police are still investigating leads, but they say there is no reason at this point to believe Pacifica Forum was involved in the swastica painting. Yet students have been organizing a rally against Pacifica Forum even before the painting. Now, they're fueled up to stop hatred of any kind on campus.
Cheerleaders lead the rally to get the Pacifica Forum off campus. Leaders of LGBTQA are now also actively on board, protesting to campus officials that Pacifca Forum represents the same thing as Monday's swastica: hatred.
Though no one knows for sure who painted the swastika in their office, students are kicking up their efforts to get signs of hate off campus. Some even started a group called Breaking Bigotry.
Though these students have expressed their emotions at past Pacifica meetings, they say that isn't enough. So, they're taking their message to campus.
If the university ultimately decides to keep Pacifica Forum on campus, students say they'll continue to show up to the meetings in protest and show them their message isn't welcome on campus.
