Oregon Alum Builds Saints into Champs

By Steve Andress

MIAMI, Fla. --- The Saints beat the Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV, and New Orleans can thank, in large part, University of Oregon and Williamette High School alumnus Mickey Loomis.

Loomis has been the Saints' Executive Vice President and General Manager for 8 years, and he has been with the organization for 10.

Loomis is widely considered the architect of the current Saints' team, after hiring current head coach Sean Payton and signing quarterback and Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees as a free agent.

Not only did Loomis assemble the current champs of the football world, he also was responsible for organizing the team's evacuation from the city of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
